UAlbany vs. Siena
  Basketball Game

November 27, 2001

Recap by John Ewashko

On November 27th more than 25 brothers were part of a crowd of 10,285 to watch UAlbany resume its basketball rivalry with Siena after almost 25 years.  Siena held off the dogged Danes 60 to 48 in a less than skillful contest that included an outstanding performance by E.J. Gallup who scored 36 points.  Everyone felt that despite a shaky outing, Albany could have beaten this Siena team.  It was a 2 point game with 2 minutes remaining.  The final outcome of the game did nothing to dampen the good time had by those who attended.  Many brothers met at the Big House Brewing Company before the game and at Kelsey’s afterward to catch up with friends and remember some of the old days.  One highlight was Paul Hepner being honored by the student fans known as the “Private Pound”.  Paul flew to the game from Florida, fulfilling a pledge made in 1977.  Hepner was given a t-shirt and was acknowledged to be the oldest alumni member of the “Private Pound”.  Look for photographs to appear in the reunion photograph section of this website in the near future.
