Psi Gam sorority:
-is the only greek organization that has continuously existed on campus through the present time.
Potter Club:
-was founded in 1931 as the only alternative to KDR. It was supposed to be named “State Union” but took the name of Edward Eldred Potter upon the recommendation of College President Brubacher who wanted to honor the student/aviator who died in a plane crash at Orly Airport, France in 1918, during World War I.
-had such an emphasis on teaching, education and literature in particular, that it was once visited by Carl Sandburg and Edna St. Vincent Millay.
-owned
a house at 415 State Street prior to moving to Hamilton
Hall.
-was heavily disciplined in 1976-77 and moved to the basement of Waterbury Hall in 1978.
-was last referenced to exist in 1979.
-has an active alumni association and a room dedicated to the organization in the Alumni House today.
Kappa Delta sorority:
-was
founded in 1897 “to promote social and literary
advancement”.
-owned
a house at 380 Western Avenue prior to moving to Dutch
Quad.
-dissolved in 1979
or 1980 due to “little or no interest on campus
in sororities”.
-has the most extensive archival collection on campus.
Chi Sig sorority:
-began in 1920 as a Catholic sorority, evolving from the Newman Club started in 1914.
-dissolved in 1980 to be reactivated in 1986 in a merger with a Phi Sigma Sigma national organization and it is unclear if continues to exist.
Phi Delt sorority:
-began
in 1923 as Alpha Delta Omicron,
a Protestant organization.
-after changing its
name, aspired to be a national
sorority that had 5 chapters nationwide by 1927.
-dissolved in 1972 or 1973.
Gamma Kap sorority:
-has a small archival collection.
