Update:
Is KDR still sending you
copies of “Quill & Scroll” magazine?
Do they know what happened in Albany in 1952?
Have they changed their policies? Why
do they send newsletters to APA alumni?
Leo
Bennett’54 asked them a number of these questions recently.
Their constitution now prohibits discrimination on the basis of race,
religion, ethnicity and sexual orientation. KDR staff checked the Gamma Chapter
files, which have unfortunately disappeared, as well as recollections of history
that recalled no controversy. The
issue was brought before the Board of Directors, virtually all of whom were too
young to remember. They appeared to
be genuinely shocked and at least one current Jewish member expressed extreme
regret. Regarding mailings, KDR
sent letters to APA alumni in 1990 that effectively reinstated membership unless
people responded otherwise. The
head of fundraising for the KDR Foundation during the 1990’s is a SUNYA
alumnus. (Member of the Albany Gamma Chapter-1968?)
